Today’s Prayer: Nigeria, Africa and the World · 11 October 2026

By Collins Osobase

1 Timothy 2:1–6 · KJV

Brief introduction

In 1 Timothy 2:1–6 (KJV), Paul urges prayer for all people, including those in authority, so that we may live peaceful lives in godliness and honesty. He identifies Jesus Christ as the one mediator between God and humanity, who gave Himself as a ransom for all.

Today we bring seven urgent concerns before the Father through Christ. These are selected needs, not a ranking of human suffering. Let our prayers lead us towards practical compassion.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace through our Lord Jesus Christ. We remember people facing hunger, violence, illness and uncertainty. Help us see their needs clearly and respond with love.

Nigeria

1. For families struggling to afford food

Father, help families whose income cannot meet their daily needs. Provide food and nutrition care for children and adults facing hunger. Protect farmers, restore access to markets and help assistance reach communities that are difficult to access.

2. For communities affected by violence and abduction

Lord, protect families, farmers and travellers threatened by armed violence. Bring those held captive safely home. Comfort grieving families and support people forced to leave their homes. Give public officials wisdom and integrity to protect communities and pursue justice.

Africa

3. For hungry children and families in Somalia

Father, help children receive nutrition treatment in time. Sustain families who have lost their livelihoods. Provide supplies and funding for health and nutrition services, and help communities prepare for possible flooding without leaving vulnerable people behind.

4. For families affected by Ebola in DR Congo

Lord, bring healing and timely treatment to those who are ill. Protect health workers and strengthen those caring for children. Comfort children who have lost parents or become separated from their caregivers. Help them find safe care, and keep fear and stigma from deepening their suffering.

5. For displaced civilians in Sudan

Father, protect people seeking safety from further attacks. Comfort those mourning loved ones and bring care to the injured. Help food, clean water and medical supplies reach displaced families. Guide those with power towards an end to violence, accountability and lasting peace.

World

6. For civilians needing food, water and shelter in Gaza

Lord, protect civilians and those delivering assistance. Help essential supplies reach families consistently. Strengthen health services, restore clean water and provide safer shelter before the rainy season. Comfort bereaved families and guide leaders towards decisions that protect human life.

7. For families preparing for winter in Ukraine

Father, protect people exposed to attacks and those living in damaged homes. Help repairs, heating and medical support reach older people, children and people with disabilities. Protect workers restoring essential services, and enable safe evacuation for those who need to leave.

Father, give leaders honest judgement and courage to serve people fairly. Strengthen relief workers, health professionals and neighbours who continue to care.

Keep us from becoming indifferent. Show us what we can responsibly give, share or do. May people come to know Your truth and the salvation found in Jesus Christ.

In Jesus Christ’s name, Amen.

Reflection

Which of these needs will I continue to pray for this week?

What practical act of care can I take today, such as checking on someone, sharing food or supporting a verified relief organisation?

Prayer priorities and sources

Nigeria: food hardship and insecurity. FEWS NET’s August–September assessment describes restricted food access, attacks on farming communities and abductions. It projects continuing food insecurity across much of northern Nigeria through January 2027, using information available on 21 August.

Somalia: hunger and reduced services. UNICEF’s 9 October update describes worsening needs and health and nutrition services closing because of funding shortages. Flooding during October–December remains an anticipated risk.

DR Congo: Ebola and children without caregivers. UNICEF reported on 6 October that more than 1,900 children had been orphaned or separated from caregivers. The figures, recorded as of 28 September, cover supported locations in Ituri and North Kivu rather than a complete national count.

Sudan: protection of displaced civilians. AP reported on 10 October a deadly strike affecting displaced people in Blue Nile and the UN’s call for accountability. Reported casualty figures remain attributed to their sources.

Gaza: essential supplies and safer shelter. OCHA’s report dated 2 October warns that funding shortages will reduce food assistance and describes obstacles to water services and preparations for rainy weather.

Ukraine: winter protection. The UN’s Winter Response Plan covers October 2026–March 2027, prioritising heating, shelter repairs and essential assistance. Its proposed reach is a response target, not a count of people already helped.
