Today’s Prayer: Nigeria, Africa and the World · 10 October 2026

By Collins Osobase

1 Timothy 2:1–6 · KJV

Brief introduction

In 1 Timothy 2:1–6 (KJV), Paul urges prayer for all people, including those in authority. He points to Jesus Christ as the one mediator between God and humanity, who gave Himself as a ransom for all. We come to the Father through Him, asking for mercy, peace and wise action.

Today we pray for six needs across Nigeria, Africa and the world. These are selected concerns, not a ranking of human suffering. The dated reports informing each prayer are linked below.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we bring before You people whose safety, health and daily provision are under strain. Thank You for those who care for them. Help us pray with compassion and act responsibly where we can.

Nigeria

For families struggling to find food

Father, provide food and nutrition care for families in conflict-affected northern communities who cannot safely reach farms, markets or assistance. Protect farmers and relief workers. Open safe routes for supplies, and guide leaders to use available resources honestly and fairly.

For communities facing flood risk

Lord, protect people in flood-prone homes and those travelling during heavy rain. Help warnings reach families in time. Strengthen emergency teams, and enable safe shelter for children, older people and people with disabilities.

Africa

For hungry families and children in Somalia

Father, sustain families facing hunger. Help children receive nutrition treatment before their condition becomes severe. Give responders the supplies, funding and safe access they need, and guide early preparations in communities threatened by flooding.

For children and families affected by Ebola in eastern DR Congo

Lord, bring healing and timely care to people who are ill. Protect health workers and comfort bereaved children. Help social workers find safe caregivers and reunite families where possible. Keep fear from turning into rejection of those who need support.

World

For civilians needing essential care in Gaza

Father, protect civilians and those delivering assistance. Enable a steady supply of food, clean water, medicines and shelter materials. Comfort grieving families and restore essential care. Guide all who hold power towards peace, justice and respect for human life.

For vulnerable people preparing for winter in Ukraine

Lord, protect families exposed to attacks and those preparing for cold weather in damaged homes. Help heating, shelter repairs and medical support reach people who cannot manage alone. Strengthen those caring for displaced families, and guide responsible efforts towards a just and lasting peace.

Father, give leaders wisdom, truthful judgement and courage to protect people. Help us refuse indifference and respond with care, without discrimination. May more people come to know Your truth and the salvation found in Jesus Christ.

We ask these things through Jesus Christ, our mediator.

In His name, Amen.

Reflection

Which of these needs will I continue to pray for this week?

What practical act of care can I take today, such as supporting a verified relief organisation or checking on someone who needs help?

Prayer priorities and sources

Nigeria: food access. FEWS NET’s August–September assessment describes severe food-access difficulties in inaccessible areas of Borno and projects crisis-level food insecurity across much of northern Nigeria through January 2027. Its analysis uses information available on 21 August 2026.

Nigeria: flood preparedness. NiMet’s bulletin for 1–10 October 2026 identifies moderate flash-flood risk in nine states, including Benue, Edo, Rivers and Bayelsa. It recommends warnings, drainage clearance and evacuation preparations. This is a risk forecast, not confirmation that every named community has flooded.

Somalia: hunger and child nutrition. The joint government and UN warning of 23 September projects 5.4 million people facing crisis-level hunger or worse during October–December 2026. It identifies anticipated flooding and funding shortages as threats to food access and treatment.

DR Congo: children affected by Ebola. UNICEF reported more than 1,900 children orphaned or separated from parents or caregivers in Ituri and North Kivu as of 28 September. The figures cover supported locations, not a complete national count. WHO’s briefing of 7 October confirms continuing transmission.

Gaza: food, water and health care. OCHA’s report dated 2 October, posted on 5 October, warns of reduced food assistance from October because of funding shortages and describes constraints on water, shelter and medicines. Its Gaza reporting period is 21–27 September unless otherwise stated. WHO’s 7 October briefing describes the health situation as critical.

Ukraine: winter preparedness. The UN’s Winter Response Plan, announced on 22 July, aims to support 2.1 million vulnerable people with heating, shelter repairs, health care and other assistance between October 2026 and March 2027. That figure is a target, not a count of people already reached.
